Mr. Janeiro began his teaching career in 2008 at Our Children's Academy in Lake Wales, FL, where he utilized his studies in Exceptional Student Education, teaching a self-contained class of students, ranging in academic level from Pre-K through 4th grade, with varying types and degrees of exceptionalities.
In 2009, Mr. Janeiro moved to Gainesville, FL, and taught 9th grade Intensive Reading and 10th grade English II Honors at Bronson Middle/High School. While at Bronson M/HS, where there was not a drama program, Mr. Janeiro led his English II Honors students in a study of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Following their study of the novel, Mr. Janeiro organized a live production of the play by his 10th grade students as a fundraiser for the 10th grade class, of whom Mr. Janeiro was the sponsor. Students auditioned for performance parts and applied for technical roles, built sets, gathered and made costumes, and successfully performed four shows of the play for the high school, the middle school, the elementary school, and the community. Mr. Janeiro's students received high praise when they attended a professional performance of the play for schools from the surrounding counties and had the opportunity to engage in a question and answer session after the performance. During that session, his students impressed the actors and other attending educators with their in-depth knowledge of the book/play and their questions about character interpretation and portrayal, accolades which were sent by the actors and educators to the principal at Bronson M/HS who praised Mr. Janeiro's students in front of the entire school.
Following his year at Bronson M/HS, Mr. Janeiro moved to Jacksonville, FL for the 2010-2011 school year, where he taught middle school intensive reading and 11th grade American Literature at Grand Park Education Center, Duval County's alternative education facility. During his time at Grand Park, Mr. Janeiro developed several creative strategies for motivating and engaging this unique population of inner city students.
With the 2011-2012 school year, Mr. Janeiro had the unique opportunity to be a part of a brand new school opening and went to work for Charter Schools USA, opening Duval Charter School at Baymeadows, a K-12 school. During that first year, Mr. Janeiro taught 6th grade Language Arts, 7th grade Honors Language Arts, 9th grade English I, and 9th grade English I Honors. He also served as the Lead Teacher for the High School Department and started the Journalism Club, which produced a monthly school newspaper. He also developed and utilized several creative novel study strategies that he used with his high school students, tackling Alexander Dumas' The Counte of Monte Cristo, the first novel that many of the students had ever read in its entirety. After their study of the novel, students used another innovative strategy developed by Mr. Janeiro to analyze the differences between the novel and the 1975 film version of the novel, assessing the ripple effect that the changes in the film would have on the story line of the novel and developing alternate endings to the novel based on the film's alterations to the story.
For the 2012-2013 school year, Mr. Janeiro taught 10th grade English II, Journalism, Creative Writing, and, having earned the certification to teach the course during the previous summer, the AICE General Paper course. It was during this year that Mr. Janeiro proposed, designed, and setup an enrichment computer lab at DCSB, where teachers could take their classes to teach research, create projects and presentations, utilize technology resources for enriching a particular lesson, or allow students to access programs that could aid in filling skill gaps that students had developed during the course of their educational career. Mr. Janeiro also continued his innovative novel study practices with the teaching of Agatha Cristie's Murder on the Orient Express and Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
The 2013-2014 school year saw Mr. Janeiro move to Sarasota, FL, continuing his work with Charter Schools USA at their Manatee County school, Manatee Charter School, a K-8 school in its second year. The 2014-2015 school year brought yet another new adventure for Mr. Janeiro as he joined the faculty of Sarasota Military Academy, teaching 9th grade English I and English I Honors. It was during this time that Mr. Janeiro began developing several new strategies for reading comprehension and writing that aligned with the new Common Core standards. Mr. Janeiro also co-lead a  Spring Break study abroad trip of 14 students to Greece. In order to ease the financial burden of the trip for the students, Mr. Janeiro established a snack stand which he used to teach students business skills while they worked to earn money to offset the cost of the trip to Greece. In preparation for the trip, students had to design and submit a project proposal that dealt with an issue that was being faced by the people of Greece. While in Greece, students had to gather information about the history of the country and culture as well as interview citizens and compile data specific to their proposal, which was published in a presentation upon returning to SMA. It was during this time that Mr. Janeiro also became a ClassDojo Mentor, training fellow teachers in how to integrate the behavior management tool into their classrooms and how to make it relevant for high school students. In preparation for summer, Mr. Janeiro designed the school wide summer reading project and educated teachers of all content areas as to how the strategy used for the summer reading project could be utilized across all content areas. For the 2015-2016 school year, Mr. Janeiro taught 9th grade Pre-IB English. During their course of study, students read Homer's The Odyssey. As part of their project based learning assignment, students tracked Odysseus' journey from Troy, home to Ithaca, identifying the most likely modern day locations of Odysseus' stops. To locate the mythical stops mentioned in the epic poem, students had to research the history and background of the Mediterranean world, including the average speed of the ships and average travel distances under varying weather conditions. Students used this information to calculate the possible locations based on travel time, weather conditions, and geographical descriptions. Once the students had identified a location, they recorded each stop on their 26.4" x 67.2" sized map of the Mediterranean world, attaching a summary of their research explaining the rationale for each stop's location.
Sarasota High School became Mr. Janeiro's educational home during 2016-2018, where he taught 9th and 10th grade Intensive Language Arts, 10th grade English II, Semantics & Logic, and Unique Skills, a study hall type class where Mr. Janeiro worked individually with students, providing additional instruction in all of the content areas. While at SHS, Mr. Janeiro refined and published his Color Reading strategy for informative reading, helping struggling readers identify the claims and elements of support within a text to aid in their comprehension of nonfiction text. With the application of this strategy and several others, Mr. Janeiro saw his students achieve an average of 220% of their expected reading level growth. While in Sarasota County, Mr. Janeiro also taught professional development courses to teachers through Professional Development Alternatives.
In 2018, Mr. Janeiro, joined the faculty of Riverview High School in Riverview, FL where he served as an English II Honors teacher and a writing resource teacher. While serving as a writing specialist, Mr. Janeiro helped students to hone their skills in the mechanics of writing at a level that would earn them merit on both the state standardized assessments as well as beyond the high school level. Additionally, Mr. Janeiro further developed JaneiroEducation.com, his grammar workbook, two new novel studies, and a novel study through film, all with the input and benefit of his students. It was also at Riverview that Mr. Janeiro was introduced to Tiered Lessons and began to incorporate the model into his teaching. The incorporation of this model saw student achievement rise by at least 10% across all levels of students within his classes.
After thirty years in the state of Florida, Mr. Janeiro and his family moved to Tennessee where he took a position at Liberty Tech High School. It was while at Liberty that the COVID-19 Pandemic struck and Mr. Janeiro was able to utilize his skills in educational technology to continue his students' learning through various digital learning systems and platforms. As part of his Master's program, Mr. Janeiro developed several programs to address the struggles that are faced when attempting to create a culture shift and turn around low performing schools like Liberty. Mr. Janeiro had the opportunity to implement those programs which resulted in a major shift in both the student and staff culture.
Mr. Janeiro and his wife have two children, a girl and a boy, and love spending time with family as well as enjoy trail and mountain hiking.
